A brief post

The past two weeks of teaching have been extremely rewarding, but also draining. I prepped all my lessons and assignments during the holiday, so teaching has been quite doable. One thing that I was worried about before starting was that I would hate teaching - which seems to be the contrary.

Working at the school kind of feels like working at Arbor Free Clinic - there is a lot of project-based work, teaching is only a small part of the job, and I am always dissatisfied with how meetings are run and how tasks get done. Maybe it’s because I’m a recovering workaholic and a recovering perfectionist, but I really enjoy getting projects done, always having something to do - which comes at the cost of not knowing how to say NO (this is something I need to work on with a therapist eventually).

Since I’ve last posted, there have been a lot of student emergencies which have quickly become delegated to me to handle - sometimes late at night and sometimes early morning. They have been exhausting, frustrating, time-consuming, and saddening - and for the sake of confidentiality, I’m going to keep this blog post short since these student events have been taking up most of my headspace. Until next time.
